Apo-Stasi
Apo-Stasi (Απόσταση) in Greek means “distance”. The fabric manipulated with Cyanotype technique tells a story about distance and connection in relationships.
The blue color has captivated me since I moved to Milan, to me it felt like a movement to start again. I haven't stopped thinking about the indigo color for two years now. Maybe growing up on an Greek island surrounded by unimaginable shades of blue is the reason behind it. I’m also greatly inspired by Paulo Coelho with his particular thoughts and his metaphors.

Apo-Stasi (Απόσταση), meaning “distance” in Greek, is about relationships between people, animals, creatures, etc.. that might feel distant. The people depicted are connected, but they still feel distant to each other, maybe not admitting the truth about something that's between them. You can see their silhouettes but won’t understand the real colors. Cyanotype is a positive photographic process but it reminds me of negatives in film photography.

Have you ever seen this technique done with real people?

Actually no, I don’t think so, but i thought if you can capture items it should also work with the human body, or clothing pieces. Of course, I researched if the specific chemical solution is not harmful for the human skin.

I chose a fabric that absorbs the cyanotype solution easily, in this case it was cotton. I rinsed it and prepared the bucket with the cyanotype solution, mixing the type A and type B solutions. I threw the fabric in and spun it around so it could absorb all the color nicely. After taking it out I immediately put it in the sun, letting the two people hop on it and pose as fast as they can, because this solution reacts really fast to the sunlight. They had to stay on the fabric for at least 30 mins.
